Nelson Malayalee Association (NMA) is a vibrant, community-led organization representing the Malayalee community in Nelson, Aotearoa New Zealand. Malayalees originally hail from Kerala — India's southwestern coastal state fondly known as "God's Own Country" — celebrated for its lush backwaters, rich spices, classical arts, and deep-rooted culture.
NMA was established to serve as a cultural bridge — preserving the heritage and traditions that our community holds dear, while warmly embracing the multicultural spirit of New Zealand. We organize a wide range of cultural, social, and sporting events throughout the year that bring together Malayalees, their families, and friends from across Nelson and Oceania.
Our most iconic event, the All-Oceania Tug of War 2025, brought together over 2,500 attendees — a testament to the energy, warmth, and community spirit that NMA embodies.
